Database Environment Silvia Ferreira DBA/380 Jeff Pohl October 14, 2014 A database is used to store collections of information and easily retrieved at a later date. The larger the amount of information, the more organized a database needs to be. A database is created with the requirements and needs of current and future users and most importantly, with past users and their information. Out book defines database systems as ââ¬Å"an organization of components that define and regulate the collection, storage, management, and use of data within a database environmentâ⬠. (Database Systems, 2013) A database is part of a larger system known as an information system, it helps with the collection, storage and retrieval of data. The database structure needs to be defined and its fields labeled properly for it to be an asset to the user. The database environment I have selected to analyze is the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. On April 13, 1870, the Metropolitan Museum of Art was opened to the public. Located in New York City, it is the largest museum in the United States, with a collection of more than two million works of art, spread among seventeen departments. According to their website, ââ¬Å"the Museumââ¬â¢s two-million-square-foot building houses over two million objects, tens of thousands of which are on view at any given timeâ⬠.
